Platform Engineer

SynthaSite's vision is to enable anyone, anywhere to publish their own website. We're a venture-backed start-up who recently raised our series A funding, released a beta product into the market and are ready to take the world by storm. We'll be growing our user base to 1 million users within the next 18 months and need a team of outstanding people.

Position:

An experienced and passionate platform engineer is required to join the team responsible for the platform hosting the SynthaSite internet-based suite of products. The position includes a focus on both software and systems so is an opportunity for individuals gifted with a 'dual nature' - a passion for both code and immaculate systems.

Location:

Cape Town, South Africa

Key responsibilities:

• Support and maintenance of the current production platform.
• Working as part of a team to engineer a next-generation platform.
• Research and rapid prototypes of candidate platform components.
• Writing test code for funtional unit, integration and load testing.
• Agile documention of code, systems and specifications.
• Working on Unix-based systems in 'server-side' environments
• Diagnosis of complex infrastructural problems
• Writing services that will form part of a RESTful service architecture
• Integration code
• Working in a distributed server environment where you deal with things like clusters, replication, redundancy

Required Skills And Experience

• At least 5 years deep-tech working experience with Unix-based systems.
• At least 5 years experience as a software developer.
• Experience with more than one language, preferable Java, C#, Python but also PHP, JavaScript, Perl, Ruby.
• Experience with databases, preferable more than just relational.
• Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
• BSc Comp Sci and post-graduate or equivalent experience.
• A "Get things done" attitude - we're in start-up mode, so every team member is jumping in and doing whatever needs to be done to build the world's best online publishing tool
