JAVA : Senior Java J2EE Developer

SynthaSite is a venture-backed start-up that is creating a web-based product aimed at allowing anyone with basic web experience to build and publish a personal or business website. SynthaSite is currently in Beta release and has signed up close to 100K users. In April 2008, the company will be opening an office in the San Francisco Bay Area and will be widely expanding its team, with the aim to reach 1 million users in the next 18 months.
Position:
The Senior Java J2EE Developer will be responsible for estimation, implementation and maintenance of the J2EE SynthaSite server infrastructure. The position is based in the San Francisco Bay Area and offers a dynamic working environment with an opportunity to work closely with a team of talented developers, architects and engineers.

Reporting:
The Java Developer will report directly to the Chief Technology Officer.
Key responsibilities:
- Work as a member of an agile development team using Scrum as a project management methodology.
- Task Estimation.
- Implementation of unit tests.
- Implementation of Java components, including Hibernate persistence objects and servlets/JSP API implementation.
- Responsibility for a dynamic and agile J2EE implementation serving both JavaScript and PHP clients.
- Definition and maintenance of a maintainable Java component architecture.
- Continual refactoring of an existing Java code base.
Qualifications/Skills:
- 5+ years of real world experience.
- Demonstrated experience in Java Servlets, JSP, Hibernate.
- Ability to define, implement and document language-independent API.
- J2EE Application Server Experience, preferably JBoss or Tomcat.
- Knowledge and application of Java annotations, POJO frameworks and aspects.
- Flexible and willing to work in a fast-changing start-up environment.
- Computer Science or Engineering degree or equivalent work experience.
- Experience with agile development a strong plus.
- JSON and/or RESTFul web services a strong plus.
- Experience with unit testing a strong plus.
